Howling wrapped them in a barrier of sound, and the river they crossed moments ago in sunlight was a torrent of flooding. Rain soaked their clothing, and chilled them to the bone.
"We need to fall back!" she cried. She looked to see if her partner heard her, but he was invisible in the haze of the chill fog that was rolling in. She had to get out of there. The storm grew worse with every moment.
She waded into the rushing water of the river, taking her chances on holding her footing as she crossed. It didn't last. A rock shifted under weight, and suddenly she was fighting to stay afloat. The last thing she saw before the river swept her away was the hazy figure of a woman through the fog.
