I just bought a new player off the market and his chosen role is N/A. Is there any way to change that? He is definitely higher in mid than the rest but I don't want him subbing in at ADC.

I think you can only assign one player to each role (as the role only applies in team games). You can change which player is assigned to a specific role in the strategy tab (just use the player selection drop down under each role). I also do not think your extra players will sub into any team games, you'll always play the five players you currently have selected in the strategy tab.
